- Nesting
This is the urge to clean and organize your entire house. Many women experience this "nesting instinct" during their last month of pregnancy. This is no myth even if there is no scientific proof of anything physically going on with your body. You experience more energy than you have had in months.

- Full moon & increased deliveries
Myth or fact, there are more babies born around a full moon, but the deliveries are usually a few days before the full moon. The majority of OB departments are full of mothers and their babies (after delivery) when the full moon actually rises.

- Storms & increased deliveries
As a storm front comes through your area the barometric pressure falls. More women present to the hospital with ruptured membranes (water breaks), not necessarily in labor.

- Determining sex of baby
      o How you are carrying the baby
     People will tell you they can tell if you are having a boy or a girl by how you are carrying the baby. Carrying high or carrying low - boy or girl. you can hear that boys are carried high in the abdomen and girls are carried low or the opposite. How the baby lies in your uterus or their position in your abdomen is determined by many factors, but the baby's gender is not one of them.
      o Baby's heart rate
     As for how you carry the baby, the same goes for the baby's heart rate. The normal fetal heart rate ranges from 110 to 160 beats per minute. The old wives tale is boys' rate is below 140 and the girls' rate is above 140. In 26 years of practice I have seen slow girls and fast boys. Either way you have a 50/50 chance.

- What starts labor
Your labor starts when your progesterone level decreases from your pregnancy level. The are myths about taking castor oil, mineral oil or using enemas to get your labor started. Castor oil and mineral oil will give you moderate to severe abdominal cramping and diarrhea, make you very uncomfortable and might give you contraction but they will not dilate you cervix. The definition of labor is uterine contractions that dilate the cervix.
